Taking Doncaster City to the Next Level: A Modern Rebrand for a Rising Club

About CLUB ROOTS

I’m Jacob Mistry, the one writing these blogs, designing the logos, and obsessing over how non-league football clubs can grow their potential. I’ve been part of the non-league world for years, so I get it—the graft, the passion, and the challenges.

CLUB ROOTS is my way of helping clubs like yours look the part, attract bigger sponsors, and build something that lasts. Whether it’s a complete rebrand, merch designs, or graphics for matchday, I’m here to make your club stand out.

  • Logo & Brand Design
  • Matchday Graphics
  • Merch & Apparel Design
  • Social Media Templates

I know budgets are tight, and volunteers are few. But with the right branding, your club can grow into something bigger—without losing its identity.

FULL CASE STUDY

Founded in 2022, Doncaster City FC has quickly established itself as a team on the rise. With ambition at its core, the club’s journey through the leagues is nothing short of inspiring. It was clear to us at CLUB ROOTS that Doncaster City’s branding needed to match this momentum. We wanted to build on the strong foundation of the current identity, taking it to the next level with a modern aesthetic that reflects where the club is headed.

Before and After: A New Era for Doncaster City FC

Our redesign began with a close look at the current badge, ensuring that we preserved elements that resonated with the club’s identity while refining and enhancing them. Below, you can see the transformation:

Before: The original badge featured the initials “DC” with a sliced design that gave a dynamic feel but left room for development.

After: We introduced an interlocking monogram of “DC,” modernising the look while maintaining its core essence. The inward spikes are a nod to the sliced effect of the original logo, ensuring continuity while evolving the design. These inward spikes are also carried through in the social media graphics for consistency.

The result is a logo that stands strong on its own but also thrives in various applications, from digital use to monochrome versions for merchandise.

Building a Cohesive Visual Identity

We extended this modern approach to Doncaster City’s social media graphics, creating a suite of templates for key moments:

  • Starting XI: Highlighting team line-ups with bold, professional designs.
  • Full-Time: Sharing match results in a way that reflects the energy and professionalism of the club.
  • Next Match: Engaging fans and keeping them informed, all while maintaining a consistent aesthetic.

Each graphic is branded with the chosen typeface, Vox Bold, which not only features in the logo but also ties the entire visual identity together. This typeface is dynamic and modern, reflecting the club’s forward-thinking ambitions.

Colours That Represent Doncaster

To ensure continuity and recognition, we used colours directly from the original badge while making subtle adjustments to enhance their vibrancy:

  • Doncaster Blue: The cornerstone of the palette, taken from the original badge.
  • Sky Blue: A vibrant accent colour that adds energy to the designs.
  • Navy Blue: A grounding shade, also from the original badge.
  • White: For contrast and clarity, tying the palette together.

A Secondary Logo for Merchandise and Beyond

In addition to the primary badge, we created an interlocking monogram as a secondary logo. This design is perfect for apparel and merchandise, making it easier for fans to connect with the brand. Whether it’s a hoodie, cap, or training gear, this secondary logo ensures Doncaster City will stand out as one of the most modern and aesthetically appealing clubs in non-league football.

Looking Ahead

This rebrand is more than a new logo; it’s a statement of intent. Doncaster City is a club with ambition, and we’re proud to help position them as a team that’s not only rising through the leagues but also setting the standard for modern football branding. We’re excited to see how this new identity helps propel the club forward and resonates with players, sponsors, and fans alike, if the club choose to move forward with this.
